Safe driving is more important than catching drivers speeding. One can speed up and still drive safely without causing accidents, as evident in some countries in Europe which have higher speed limits than us. I remembered being stopped by a UK police for driving in the middle lane of M6 while the left lane was empty. I was never stopped by the UK police for driving at 140km/h. Apart from driver attitude, I believe the road conditions in Malaysia is also to blame. Some roads are uneven and with potholes which may cause drivers to lose control of their cars. The Govt should consider these factors and not merely blame drivers speeding as a reason for the high number of accidents and fatality. There is therefore a need to inculcate the value of self-dicipline amongst the motoring public. I am of the view that the Road Transport Department should adopt the dicipline of the Aviation Industry and towrds this end Officers from the Road Transport Department should interact and learn for the Officers of the Department of Civil Aviation. After all they are from the same Ministry. I beleive there are so much experience to be shared by these two Departments. To curb the Mat Rempits menace I suggest they be charge the Court of Law for attempting to commit suicide rather than reskless driving. They should also be made to do volunteer work in the Emergency Ward of General Hospitals. Parents of Mat Rempit should also be charge in the Court of Law for abetting their siblings in their attempt to commit suicide.
